Richland’s 50th Anniversary = Cool Airplanes on the Way
by Matt McGee on June 11th, 2008. Filed under: Richland Events.
As part of Richland’s 50th anniversary, a group of cool, old war planes is coming to the Tri-Cities next week. A B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-25 Mitchell, a P-51 Mustang and the world’s only still flying B-24 Liberator will be in town for three days starting next Monday, June 16. Of course, the Richland airport isn’t really equipped to handle a visit like this, so the planes will be landing and staying at the Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco.
It’s one thing to see planes like this in a museum or sitting on a field somewhere, but next week’s event will be crazy cool because you can — for a price — get in and take a short flight in any one of them, or all of them if you want! A half-hour flight in the B-17 or B-24 will run you $425; a half-hour in the B-25 will be $325 or $400 depending on where you sit; and you can go up in the P-51 Mustang fighter for $2,200 (half-hour) or $3,200 (one hour). Call 800-568-8924 for reservations and information.
How freakin’ cool would it be to fly in a World War II bomber or fighter??!!
If “not cool” is your answer, you can also do walk-throughs of the airplanes at $12 for adults and $6 for kids 12 and younger. (Scaredy-cat….)
Need more information, like times and all that? Visit the Collings Foundation web site. They’re the folks who fly the airplanes around the country for events like this.
