Richland Y is now “Island View” … Because Google Says So

The Richland Y no longer exists. Well, it exists, but you can’t use that name anymore. The City of Richland is now referring to the area as Island View.

Why?

Because that’s what Google calls it.

Yep. Here’s a screenshot of the area on Google Maps:

The Herald recently spoke with city officials, who admitted to changing the name after noticing “Island View” on Google Maps. That’s the old name for the area, and the city says it fits:

“We’re coming back to the historic name of the area,” said Joe Schiessl, city redevelopment and neighborhood improvement manager. “Now that the levee is lowered, you can see Bateman Island from more of the properties, so the name is more fitting at this point.”

Google also calls the area just south of the Y … err, Island View … “Richland Junction.” Do we have to start using that now, too? Columbia Center sounds so much better.

Screw Google, the Richland City Council, the egomaniac transplants and turncoat Richland Natives that try and cram these revisionist history ploys down the throats of locals… particularly the throats of those that were here before the bomb. Richland Y and Bateman Island… get over it. Back to historic names blah blah. What did the Yakama’s call it? You people suck!! YOU FAIL!!
