Richland Working on Duportail Bridge Project
by Matt McGee on October 3rd, 2008. Filed under: Richland News. The City of Richland is looking for grant money to help build a four-lane bridge on Duportail Street over the Yakima River … like this:

Officials say the bridge will help connect the city core with South Richland, which is another way of saying it’ll be much easier for people to get from the downtown area out to all the new stores and restaurants in the Queensgate area. That development is a veritable gold mine of sales tax revenue for the city, but it’s not so easily accessible from most parts of the city. The city also says the bridge will help cut down on I-182 traffic.
The city has already received a $1 million grant for preliminary engineering, and design is already in progress.

Also on the agenda is a joint project with the city of Kennewick and Benton County to widen Leslie Road between Reata Road and Clearwater Avenue. The project will include a new roundabout at the intersection of Leslie and Clearwater, plus bike lanes and sidewalks. That project is due to start next year.
