The 2009 city budget includes no cut in funding for the city’s parks, meaning the Barth, Greater Years, and Westwood mini-parks should get the same levels of city maintenance they’ve always had. Richland residents, especially in the immediate vicinity of each park, fought pretty loudly against plans to close those parks down so the city could save about $10,000. With the funding in tact for next year, though, the city says plans to develop new parks are on hold.
None of this is set in stone yet — there are still public meetings on the budget coming up, and a final vote on December 2nd.
