The City of Richland has published final numbers about new housing starts in the city during 2008. For the year, housing starts were down almost 25% compared to 2007. Have a look:

2008
Permits issued: 230 houses
Valuation: $63.1 million

2007
Permits issued: 301 houses
Valuation: $81.8 million

But it seems like new construction in the city was healthy overall, thanks to commercial development. City officials say the valuation of all 2008 construction totaled $193.28 million, compared with $175.61 million in 2007.
