More Commercial Development Coming to Queensgate/Keene

Like it or not, the City of Richland will extend Queensgate Avenue to Shockley and has opened the door for more commercial development at the Queensgate/Keene Rd. intersection. The Council voted unanimously earlier this week to change the zoning status of 12.5 acres in the area from residential to commercial.
It was a controversial decision — some residents in the area don’t want more commercial development and want the area to remain undeveloped, while other property owners looking to sell their land wanted the zoning change in order to get the most out of their real estate.
One thing that came out during the meeting last week is that Queensgate Avenue was due to be extended to Shockey even if the Council had not OK’d the zoning change for some of the land.
