Richland logoAnswer: A lot.

The City of Richland has shared details on its gasoline-related spending for 2008. Through October 7, the city spent $874,047 on gas, using 237,471 gallons in the process. That comes out to an average of $3.68 per gallon.

How’s it compare with 2007? The city says that, as of the same date last year, they used 232,774 gallons at a cost of $607,690. That’s an average of $2.61 per gallon.

So, that’s a 41% increase in the cost per gallon from $2.61/gallon in 2007 to $3.68/gallon in 2008. In terms of overall dollars spent, it’s an increase of 44%.

Yikes.

On a brighter note, the city also said today that they’ve saved close to $7,000 in costs over the past four months by switching to bio-diesel at the Richland landfill.
