Here’s the latest business news we’ve heard around town.

A restaurant called J’s Asian Flaming Grill recently opened at 451 Hills Street. It’s open weekdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Discount Tire recently opened at 115 Gage Blvd. It’s open six days a week (closed on Sundays), and is the second Discount Tire stores in the Tri-Cities.
Zero Gravity Builders Studio has moved into a new building at the Richland Airport. The company offers a variety of airplane- and flight-related services, including helping people build experimental aircraft. You can find them at 1865 Bronco Lane.

Richland Construction Exceeds National Levels

Good news if you’re looking to rent here. Commercial construction is on the rise in Richland. The story mentions apartments and a medical facility are both underway. Woo-hoo! It’s about time…for the apartments, anyway. I don’t know if we need another medical facility, but I don’t think they’d get financing for it if they hadn’t shown the need.

And speaking of financing, this makes me chuckle -

…in some cases more local banks…understand the need here and are willing to take on that risk. In other cases it’s sort of non-conventional financing,” says Bill King, Deputy City Manager for Community and Development Services.

Non-conventional financing?? Does that make anyone else think of people paying exorbitant interest rates and dealing with guys who have muscle men hovering around?

Maybe the medical center is to help the people dealing with the after effects of wearing cement shoes and swimming with the fishes???

Gesa Celebrating Richland Office Remodeling

Gesa’s celebrating the remodeling of its Richland branch with a full week of events that culminates with a community barbecue on Saturday.

The barbecue is schedule for 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday (August 14), and will include hot dogs and chicken on the grill, office tours, giveaways, music, plus plenty of fun stuff for the kids — including Gesa’s flying cash cube.

But the event actually begins tomorrow (August 10) with day-long coffee and cookies for folks who want to come in and see the new look. There are events on Thursday for people wanting to learn more about investing, and a “Royalty Loyalty Day” on Friday honoring people who’ve been Gesa members for 30+ years.

SECU to Merge with Numerica Credit Union

Richland’s SECU Federal Credit Union will merge later this month with Spokane-based Numerica Credit Union. The merger will become official on May 31st.

Although SECU has more than 3,000 members and assets totaling more than $12 million, its size kept SECU from being able to offer its members some services that larger credit unions do. So, it went shopping for a bigger partner and decided on Numerica.

SECU President/CEO Eldon Ladd told the Tri-City Area Journal of Business that the merger is “a good fit” for SECU. That article offers more details about what will happen locally to SECU’s buildings and employees:

Once the merger is complete, Numerica will take over all of SECU’s assets, including its headquarters at 1780 Fowler St. in Richland, which will become a Numerica branch.

Ladd, who will not remain with the organization after the merger, said Numerica is interviewing SECU’s eight employees and some will transfer to Numerica.

“Our intention is to try to keep as many people as we can,” said Dennis Cutter, Numerica’s president and CEO.

SECU’s headquarters is on Fowler St. in Richland, and it also has a branch on Sylvester Ave. in Pasco.

Richland Business News Update

Been a while since we’ve done of these, so here’s a quick look at some recent business news happening in and around Richland.

Chase Bank will open a new branch near the Target store in Vintner’s Square. They’ll build a new, 3800-square-foot facility near the intersection of Queensgate Drive and Duportail St. No word on when it’ll be open.
Olivieri Portrait Design is a new photography business that’s now open in Richland. It’s located at the corner of Gage Blvd. and Bellerive Drive.
Balance MBS Chiropractic is now open in Richland. It’s located behind Albertson’s at 134 Keene Rd. This office used to be known as Workman Wellness Clinic.

Rue21 Opening Next Month, Hiring Soon

We posted right before Christmas about a new Rue21 store coming to Richland, but we didn’t know many details. We do now.

Kymberly Trana, the Rue21 district manager, shared more information down in the comments of that post.

1. The store will open on February 25.

2. They’re holding a job fair on January 26 at the Vintner Square Center from 10am to 6 pm in Suite 2665. The store is looking for management, full- and part-time assistants, sales associates and temporary store set-up employees.

So, there you go. Shopper or job hunter — now you have the whole scoop.

Rue21 Store Coming to Richland

Rue21, a national clothing store that targets teens and young adults, is opening up a store at Vintner Square in Richland. The city says it’ll be located in the west end of the block of stores that includes Starbucks and Alegre Mexican Restaurant — in the Target shopping center area.

No word on when the store will open.

Rue21 Store Coming to Richland

A Cheese Store? In the Tri-Cities?

I know, I had to double check I wasn’t reading about something happening on the west side of the state. But it’s true! A new store has opened in Richland and they sell nothing but CHEESE!

Actually, I understand they also sell foods that are appropriate to pair with cheese, and cheese accessories (spreaders, trays, etc.). They plan to have classes on cheese pairings and European cheeses, and basic cheese info – (it’s called Cheese 101, so that must be what it’s about, right?). How cool is that?

They also have beverages and wi-fi and a gathering area, where you can hang out, learn about cheese, sip your drink, and surf the web.

Tonight they’re having an event called the “Cheese Saw Massacre” from 7-11. I like this line from an article in the Tri-City Herald –

“And any time you have chain saws and cheese you know something will happen,” she said.

I can’t imagine truer words have ever been spoken!

Richland Parkway has a web site

The businesses located along the Richland Parkway are featured on a new web site, TheRichlandParkway.com. The site is also geared to promote the Friday morning Richland Farmers’ Market.

There’s not a ton of content on there yet, but it’s good to see local businesses being promoted like this. I’d assume some of them don’t have any other web presence to call their own.
